Makes of 5 lever mortice deadlocks

Traditionally Chubb was the predominant brand of 5 lever deadlock, hence many people still refer to this type of lock as a Chubb lock. However, these days many manufacturers produce these locks such as: ERA, Union, Assa Abloy, Legge, Yale and many others.


Types of 5 lever mortice deadlock

Mortice deadlocks are supplied in several different shapes and sizes; the most common being 64mm and 76mm back sets. However, there are other less common sizes available.

They are also available as either a deadlock version where a deadbolt is operated by a key, or sashlock version which has a key operated deadbolt and a handle operated latch mechanism in the same lock case.

Most modern Non-British Standard 5 lever mortice deadlocks will have the following security features:

  • Hardened steel rollers in the lock bolt to help prevent cutting through the bolt.
  • Security curtain around the keyhole to help prevent tampering and lock picking.
  • A minimum of approximately 500 key differs.
  • A steel box frame receiver for the lock bolt.

BS 3621 Versions of this lock would have additional features of a higher specification.
